About us

Joining our team of extraordinary people is the opportunity for you to be part of something special. If you value working as part of a friendly, compassionate and diverse team that really makes a difference, whether through direct care to patients and other service users, or in a support team such as fundraising, retail, finance, facilities or HR, we can help you find a job to match your needs, skills and experience.

You will be empowered to provide the kind of service you can feel proud of, with people at the heart of everything you do, whatever your role.

Your work will sometimes be challenging but always rewarding. We can offer you flexibility, a safe and healthy work environment and opportunities to develop and learn new skills. We also provide an array of excellent benefits to support your physical, mental, financial and social wellbeing, as well as a culture where you will feel trusted, valued, respected and supported by those around you.

We work with dedication and compassion within our Hospice and our Highland communities, delivering and enabling care and support to those approaching the end of life and in bereavement.

In addition, we have a leading role in palliative care learning, development and knowledge exchange within the Highland health and social care sector and in nurturing collaborative and sustainable provision of services with partner organisations.

We do, contact our People Team for more information and an application form.
We use application forms so that we receive consistent information about all candidates. The Personal Statement is a really important part of the application as it allows you to tell us about your skills, experience and qualities. The Hiring Manager and another senior employee will then compare all applications against the job description and assess which candidates are most closely matched to the criteria for the role.
Of course! We are committed to being an inclusive employer and additional needs will not be a barrier to being interviewed, just let us know how we can help so that we can make any arrangements.
We aim to contact you with an outcome within 5 working days of the interview. If this is not possible, you will be advised at interview and kept informed.
The Hospice does not cover travel expenses for interviews; however, we do have the facility to hold your interview online in exceptional circumstances.
Referees are only contacted once the successful candidate has accepted an offer of employment from us.
The probationary period is 6 months and you will have 2 probation reviews within that time. The main purpose of your probationary period is to ensure that you feel supported in your new role. Feedback is essential and the probationary monitoring period is designed to ensure that as a new member of staff you clearly understand what you need to achieve. Both what you do (objectives) and how you do it (behaviours) are reviewed during these meetings.
Any offer of employment will be conditional upon successful checks of references, criminal record, right to work in the UK and occupational health.
You can, provided that there is no more than a 12 month gap between leaving the employment of the NHS and joining the Hospice.
Our pay bands align with the Agenda for Change framework used by the NHS and we are proud of the competitive pay rates we offer our Sunflower Care at Home services and the Real Living Wage we offer to our In the City Café and Ness Railway staff. Wherever you work, your pay is reviewed annually.
We do recognise previous service with the NHS, for the purposes of annual leave. As long as you were employed by the NHS within the last 12 months, we will recognise all of your previous service, even if there were breaks in service previously.
We use an advanced software package from Talos called 360. All your details are securely stored in this system and removed after 6 months in line with Data Protection practices.
